Alexia Uwera Mupende is a Kenya born Rwandan model, dancer and actress currently living and working in Kigali, Rwanda. Entertainment has been at the heart of her life since her childhood, earning her three titles as Miss Junior and Miss Intermediate twice in a row.
Alexia has had the opportunity to work with some established local designers such as House of Marion, Ikanzu Designs and Accessories, Inzuki Designs, Rwanda Clothing, Sonia Mugabo, Rupari, House of Inkanda, Haute | Baso, Inema Arts, MIZERO, Uzi Collections and IKWIZE to mention a few.
Alexia also had the privilege to represent Rwanda at Runway Dubai Season II in Dubai, UAE, Africa Fashion Show Geneva #AFSG 3rd Edition in Geneva, Switzerland and Kampala Fashion Week 2015 in Kampala, Uganda where she worked with international designers like Modupe Omonze also Founder of Runway Dubai, Shaleen Cheah, Helen Couture, Si Fashion Galerie, Khalid Al Ayoub, The Closet, Apollo Shawls, Bodhisattva, Julius Reuben, Afrokulcha, Etita Ojogu, Pistis, Nanis, Jose Hendo, Catherine & Sons, J&Kainembabazi, Vouge Atelier, Definition Africa, Kwesh, Kona, Morine Designs and Maxhosa by Laduma.
Besides being the face of many young and upcoming talented designers, the multitalented Rwandan beauty has graced the runways of Kigali Fashion Week with her long luscious dreadlocks and honey bronzed skin in 2012, 2013 and 2014, the Rwandan Fashion Upgrade by Rwanda Clothing, Vlisco150, Illusions as well as Collective RW17.
Alexia is part of a theatre collaboration between Mashirika Performing Arts, Rwanda and Stages Theatre Group, Sri Lanka entitled Dear Children Sincerely…a conversation across generations, a play that was devised by Sri Lankan and Rwandan artists through interviews conducted with elders of both the countries born in the 1930’s. Part of a wider ongoing theatre project initiated by Stages Theatre Group, the first performance and international collaboration took place in Kigali, Rwanda at the Ubumuntu Arts Festival held in commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide. This was followed by three performances in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the prestigious 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav festival organized by the National School of Drama, New Delhi India; three shows performed in Jammu-Kashmir, New Delhi & Kerala – India. Most recently this piece has been performed at the Metta International Festival 2016 in Mumbai, India.
Her achievement of winning the Rwanda Premier Model Competition was something she claims to have just been just the beginning. Self-motivated and driven, Alexia is inspired by amazing women in the industry like Tyra Banks, Liya Kibede, Oluchi Onweagba, Alek Wek, Gisele Bundchen, Patricia Akello, Aamito Lagum and Iman Abdulmajid…though she is naturally shy, Alexia turned her childhood passion into a career she loves and cherishes.
